Essential Tips On Arriving At The Right Auto Body Repair Shop

It is highly essential to find the right auto body shop because car repairs are inevitable. At some point or the other you will need services for repairing your car. Many of you are very little apprehensive at this point and often take your car to the car dealer to get it repaired or serviced. However, this is not something realistic.

When it comes to auto body work, car dealerships may prove to be very costly. It is very essential to find a shop that is in the vicinity of your home or workplace. Proximity is not the only point to be considered, you must also consider if it is affordable and has dexterous technicians. Finding the right shop is tough, but not impossible. A little bit of research can help you find the right shop and also save your money. It is important to find the right shop because some shops may even lie about the damage present in your vehicle. Following are the things that must be considered before arriving at the right auto body shop:

1. Start looking or researching for an auto body shop even before your car needs a repair. This will help you handle any emergency repair need quickly and with ease. You must not land up in a situation wherein there is an emergency repair to be done and you have no repair shop address on hand while at the same time you have to attend an important conference. Don't go to a shop out of necessity, but go it only after detailed research.

2. The next thing to do is start researching to find the right auto body shop. Ask your family, relatives, friends or even colleagues for recommendations. You can ask anyone who has previously got their car serviced or repaired.

3. Once you have prepared a list of all the prospective auto body shops you can call the shops and talk to the manager to inquire about their policies. You can also find out information regarding the experience of the workers and the breakup of the charges taken by them, though it is not the only important factor to be considered.

4. You can then proceed to assess how the shop is being run. You can visit the shop and see how organized they are. If they are almost always busy, you may look for other auto body repair shop.

5. You can ask the shop for some references of their past clients. You can inquire with them about their experience of getting their car repaired or serviced. You can ask them about the different aspects about which they were satisfied or dissatisfied. You can also get an idea about the real turnaround time.

6. Ask the shop about the modes of payment. You can ask them if they accept personal checks or if they offer any loans for carrying out extensive repairs.

7. You can also take your car to them for minor maintenance procedure in order to gain some experience and arrive at an opinion regarding the auto body workshop.

Frame Repair in Its Various Forms

This type of repair must be completed only by technicians who are certified. These technicians adhere to standards that are extremely rigorous as they know that a frame that is strong is of uber-importance for the safety of the vehicle's passengers and driver as well as for anyone on the road around them.

For those who may be unfamiliar with vehicular frames and how their integrity is compromised, think of the frame as being a soda can. When it is undamaged it is straight and strong. Crush it though and you will notice that the foundation of it becomes undermined and the actual structural integrity becomes compromised. You can pull it out until it is straight again, but the metal has been weakened severely and next time, it will be much easier to crush.

The damaged frame of a vehicle is similar to this. If the frame has not been properly repaired, it will be crushed more easily the next time there is a collision and this severely jeopardizes the safety of the occupants. In general, there are two ways to repair the frame of a vehicle.

Straightening

Straightening the frame is basically where the metal is bent back to its original shape. There are computerized tools that can be utilized to find the proper alignment with accuracy and precision as well as an ultrasound machine that can be utilized to measure the total degree of the damage. When this process is completed correctly, the frame of a vehicle can be restored to the condition it was in prior to the collision.

Welding

There are times when the damage to the frame is too severe for straightening to work. In cases such as this, the technician might recommend that the bent sections of the frame are removed and new ones welded in. When this process is done precisely, the welded points actually work to provide the same amount of structural integrity that the frame had before the collision.

Knowing that the frame is what essentially holds the vehicle together and protects the occupants, it should be easy to understand that repairing it means more than simply putting it back to the original shape. You must also restore its structural integrity so that it will be able to absorb the forces from any future impacts just as it would if it had never been damaged. When the frame has been too severely bent out of shape then it might not be worth trying to repair it.

No matter if you need frame repair for a commercial vehicle, Semi, RV, truck or car, it is important to check out the services that are offered at a frame repair shop. If the correct machinery is not on hand or the technicians have not been properly trained then you should find a repair shop that does have those things.

Also, there are other frame services that you might need that can include things like stretching the frame, servicing the driveline, extending the frame, axle additions, shortening the frame and more. These services are generally offered by frame repair shops that have the training and equipment to satisfy all of your frame needs.

Most minivans struggle with small overlap front crash test; Toyota Sienna earns acceptable rating, TOP SAFETY PICK+

ARLINGTON, Va. — A group of four minivans recently tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for protection in small overlap front crashes shows some of the worst possible outcomes for this type of crash, with only one vehicle performing acceptably. The Nissan Quest, the Chrysler Town & Country and its twin, the Dodge Grand Caravan, all earn poor ratings. The exception to the disappointing pattern is the 2015 Toyota Sienna, which earns an acceptable rating. It joins the Honda Odyssey, which last year earned a good rating in the test, in the ranks of TOP SAFETY PICK+ winners.

Choosing an Auto Body Repair Shop

Having a damaged car can easily skyrocket stress levels, especially if you have never been to an auto body repair shop. A whirlwind of anxiety and questions roll around your head. Where is the best place to go? Or, perhaps you need to replace the hood of your car because it no longer closes tight. Maybe you are just seeking a new auto body repair shop for future maintenance and repairs. There are dozens of shops in your area. So, how do you choose?

1. Word of mouth: Ask your family, friends, or around town. Someone you know is bound to recommend a place or two. Go online to review sites such as Yelp. Good reviews are proof that the shop has met the satisfaction of customers in the past. Choose a few reputable shops and compare estimates.

2. Be aware of labor charges: Whatever you are having done to your car, a labor fee per hour is always included. Prices vary but can reach to an exuberant amount, such as nearly $100 per hour. A smaller staffed auto body repair shop means they do not have to pay as many people, so the labor prices are usually lower.

3. Get several estimates before settling: If you have the time, shop around for quotes. This will help you avoid overcharging. Some shops may match estimates from other shops. Limiting yourself to only a couple shops might burn a bigger hole in your pocket. It is important to remember the lowest price is not always the best. Trust your instinct. If the shop seems shady, move on.

4. Ask questions: Don't be afraid to ask questions. Be conscious of how the staff reacts to questions. Do they seem agitated or irritated? In a professional shop, the staff treats customers with respect and is happy to answer your questions and address your concerns. Make sure you question whether or not the shop will issue a warranty for your car and for how long. Typical lengths for an auto body repair shop would be approximately two years. It is also important to if the shop has insurance in case of a fire or theft. In case your car sustains damage while in the auto body repair shop's care, you want to make sure the shop is covered.

It is wise to find an auto body repair shop before you actually need it. Having the time to research shops, as opposed to rushing around and taking your car to an unknown shop, will save you time, money, and help you make a more informed decision when the need for auto repairs arise.

Frame Repair Can Save Your Vehicle

You may think that if the frame of your vehicle is damaged it is a total loss. With today's modern frame repair the frame of your vehicle can many times be safely repaired and your vehicle saved. Something as simple as hitting a pothole at high speeds can damage your frame. Most of today's vehicles are constructed with a unibody frame which means the vehicle is built right onto the frame (unlike older methods which placed the vehicle on the frame after it was built) and this presents a challenge to frame repair. This is why frame repair is better left to the professionals who have the right equipment and skills to perform frame repair safely and efficiently.

How Frame Damage Affects Your Vehicle

There are several signs your vehicle may have suffered frame damage. A bad accident is an obvious cause, but uneven tire wear, vibration, uneven wheel alignment, and leaning to one side can also be symptoms of frame damage. The safety and performance of your vehicle is greatly affected by frame damage. Your ability to control your vehicle as well as increased wear and tear are all factors to be considered. If the frame of your vehicle is damaged the signs and symptoms will only worsen with time.

Frame Repair Basics

As mentioned before many cars, SUV's, and small trucks have a unibody construction. Larger commercial vehicles are still built with a separate frame, and it takes a qualified shop to know how to fix both types of frame construction. The technician does more than just a quick overview to assess the damage; they must have a thorough knowledge of each type of frame, and the signs of damage to look for.

Once the damage is assessed the vehicle is placed on a large hydraulic machine which stretches and bends the frame back to factory specifications. The technician monitors this process carefully to ensure the frame is properly manipulated. Many times additional straightening and welding are needed to repair the frame. Not only do technicians need a thorough knowledge of vehicle construction, but they must also be versed in the many different types of metals used in frame construction and their properties. This helps prevent further damage to the frame, and enables the technician to repair the frame safely.

Not a Shade Tree Mechanic Job

You may see frame repair kits at your local store, but they can't give you the safe and proper repair provided by a qualified shop equipped with heavy duty equipment and a thorough knowledge of repair processes. If repaired incorrectly your vehicle may become unsafe and unreliable. For example unless they are calibrated to the original factory setting your air bags may not deploy properly in the event of a crash, or they may deploy at the wrong time. Don't take chances with your vehicle's safety and leave this job to the professionals.

If done properly frame repair can save your vehicle. Not all frame damage is catastrophic. A qualified shop with the right equipment can straighten and repair your vehicle and get it back on the road in good running order.

Everything You Need to Know About Auto Collision Estimation

Being in an auto collision is never a fun experience. Even if no one is injured, it can still be a stressful and annoying situation. It can also be costly. Auto repairs are expensive and getting more expensive every year. We want our cars fixed right, but we also want to get the best deal. To ensure you know the basics of what goes on when you take your care to a body shop for repairs, here is a brief checklist of what collision repair specialists do.

The initial step of auto collision repairs is inspection. A auto collision specialist is trained to recognize the extent of the damage and the type and amount of repairs to get the vehicle back on the road again. Auto repair specialists use both learned theoretical knowledge with practical experience to repair the car correctly. When you bring your car in (or it is towed in), here is what they do in the inspection process:

  • Use their intimate knowledge of the car's structure to evaluate and understand any core structural damage.
  • Find out and determine the car's history so old damage can be differentiated from the new damage.
  • Determine the point and intensity of impact to ensure less obvious areas of damage are detected.
  • Check the steel components of the body to determine welding and replacement needs.
  • Check all plastic components, such as door panels, for damage.
  • Determine if there has been any damage to the mechanical systems.
  • Determine if the suspension system has been damaged.
  • Analyze and determine the painting needs.

The second part of the process is the estimation. The following steps will be followed during this part of the repair process:

  • Check parts availability and pricing for all parts that need to be replaced.
  • Determine the total amount of labor hours needed to repair, replace, and paint.
  • Prepare a complete documentation for all repairs, parts, and costs for the customer.
  • Thoroughly explain all procedures, repairs, and estimates to the customer.
  • If there are repairs which may have more than one possible solution, explain the various options to the customer.
  • If some repairs will be done at a different location (some mechanical or suspension repairs may be done elsewhere), the reasons for this should be explained completely to the customer.

The auto body specialist should display a thorough knowledge of all repairs, and should take the time to answer any questions you may have. If the customer service seems poor, you may want to move on to the next body shop. You want your repairs done correctly, for a reasonable price, on time, and with a smile!

Fix Auto Repair Problems Immediately

Even in a good economy, people will often try and save money by forestalling an auto repair in order to save the money. We all deal with dings, dents, and scratches without running immediately to the mechanic, because not every sort of auto problem is a sign of imminent danger, some are just annoying sounds and modules that have become worn or broken with time.

However there are plenty of things which should have you calling your mechanic or driving it in for analysis immediately. There's no hard and fast rules about which sounds mean trouble, and which small signals are no big deal.

So it pays to do a few things in order to ensure that you're on top of your vehicle's health, making sure to fix any problems before they become great big problems.

Visually Inspect - Before you get into your car, take a look around and make sure your wheels are all full and riding at about the same height and angle. Sometimes a slow leak leaves a tire flat suddenly, but the driver doesn't realize this until they're on the road in a potentially dangerous situation.
Take a look under the car to be sure no parts appear loose, and there's no dragging of pieces or flimsily connected components hanging there.

Monitor your gauges and note how the heat, oil, water, and other fluid levels seem. Make sure your temperature appears not only low, but also stable.

Audial Inspection - While everyone loves music while driving, take plenty of time to drive your car and listen to it as it accelerates, as it breaks, when it starts, and how the engine feels as it powers down. There are lots of queues that we have which tell the seasoned mechanic something bad is about to happen. People often aren't as used to listening close to the needs of their cars, and could potentially be hazardous.

If you hear sounds or see something amiss, write it down and describe it as best you can, so you can easily reproduce the problem for any service person who might inspect your vehicle.

A car is the best way to transport yourself freely and inexpensively, but cars require a lot of maintenance and care as well. Take good care of your vehicle and pay attention to changes in sounds or performance. Also make sure to keep up with your regular scheduled maintenance so that fluid levels and normal wear and tear is erased.

If you car needs to be repaired then stop in our automotive center before you go anywhere else. Our engine repairs are performed by ASE certified techs. We have been serving the citizens of Oak Creek for decades. We also a Franklin Automotive Center being only two miles away from the city.

Getting Your Car Back on the Road After a Collision

The process of repairing a car involved in a collision can vary depending on the extent and location of the damage. However, the way a quality shop goes about assessing, ordering, and repairing damage should be similarly thorough and knowledgeable every step of the way.

All repairs must start with an estimate that should result in a repair order for your vehicle. Once a repair order has been established the next step can begin.

This involves one or a team of technicians looking over your car, both in the affected areas, and in other spots that might have been damaged by the force of the crash.

Many shops will then order parts as needed and when they arrive, begin the necessary repairs. The best shops will have much of the inventory on-hand to get started with the job, and they will also likely inspect the vehicle one more time to check for additional damage or malfunction.

Parts of the interior are then removed in order to provide access to the areas which need servicing. Again, the best centers will inspect the body and metal work of your car at this point to ensure structural integrity.

If your car is getting a new paint job, your car will then be masked and painted, but if you need more involved work, your car will also be prepped and lifted into the position in which all problems can be addressed properly.

After the repairs are finished, there's still more to be done. The car must be precisely reassembled from the smallest details to larger paneling on the body.

Once the car is reassembled, a senior mechanic should perform one more thorough quality-control inspection to be sure the problems have indeed been fixed and all parts of the car have been reassembled and are working correctly.

Likely the shop will give your car a wash and detail, which is certain if you're getting a paint job. A final test drive should be the last step a shop takes just to make sure that everything is operating as intended, and the car is safe and operational.

Only at that point should the owner be called to come and collect their vehicle. If your car could talk it could let you know if every step has been done properly, but with this checklist in hand, you need only ask your repair center to make sure they're doing everything necessary.

Getting into a car accident puts a lot of stress on an individual. Your car is damaged, people get hurt and insurance rates go up. Bodywerks of Streamwood is a car collision center that understands what your going through and we are here to help. Getting your car repaired should be the last thing you need to focus on after an accident.

Collision Repair: How Much Damage Is Too Much?

From minor bumps to high-speed crashes, most car accidents result in damages that require the expertise of an auto body repair shop. Collision repair isn't always simple. Even minor accidents can cause auto body damage that is expensive and timely to repair. The type of impact and the style of the damaged car both play a role in determining how much damage has occurred.

Determining a Total Loss

Many drivers think that there's no hope if their insurance company says that their car is 'totaled.' A car that is totaled is not necessarily unrepairable though. The extent of the damage has very little to do with whether or not an insurance company declares a total loss. Instead, the decision is based on the costof the collision repair in comparison to the fair market value of the car. If repairing the auto body damage will cost more than the car is worth, it is said to be totaled.

Structural Damage

Correcting damage to a vehicle's frame is one of the most expensive types of collision repair, but undoing structural damage is not impossible. A knowledgeable auto body repair shop will generally inspect a wrecked vehicle for misalignment before anything else. If the car doesn't meet the exact measurements of the manufacturer, advanced machines are used to pull the frame back to its original specifications.

Rear End Collisions

Depending on the speed, a car that is rear ended can suffer quite a bit of damage. Structural damage is not uncommon after a powerful rear collision. The amount of damage will also depend on the car. In a recent IIHS study, a low-speed rear end collision in a compact car with a poorly designed bumper can result in more than $3,500 in auto body damage. On the other hand, a car with dent-resistant plastic body panels can often be repaired for less than $200.

Frontal Impacts

Front-end collision repair is often more extensive than rear end damage. At higher speeds, a head-on collision can cause damage to the front bumper, the hood, the windshield, and the quarter panels. If the damage is minor, the auto body technician may choose to repair the panels rather than replace them. Unless the parts are pre-painted, the body shop will also have to match the paint color and re-spray each panel before reassembling the car.

Rollovers

A car that rolls over generally has much more auto body damage than a vehicle involved in a frontal or rear end crash. Damage to the frame is usually inevitable in a rollover. There is a possibility that every piece of the car has suffered at least minor body damage. The decision to repair a vehicle that has rolled over should be made carefully. Extensive damage like this could require additional mechanical work, as well.

Whether auto body damage appears to be major or minor, an experienced collision repair specialist should examine the car for unseen damage. Accidents can cause cosmetic damage that is fairly easy to repair, as well as frame damage or mechanical troubles that are much more costly to fix. Almost any type of collision damage can be repaired, but sometimes it is more cost efficient to scrap the vehicle.

How Auto Body Repairs Saves You Money in the Long-Run

While the world's economy continues to become worse, we all keep on trying to save money and keep as much as we can in our pockets. We are simply trying our hardest to get the most value for what we spend and also make it last as long as possible.

One downfall is that it is inevitable that unfortunate accidents are going to happen and we will have to let some cash loose. It is no secret that our vehicles do take up quite a lot of our hard earned cash. However, this does not mean we stop spending our money on one of our most prized possessions.

It is vital to keep our vehicles looking fantastic, running well and also to protect their value and your investment. If you are unfortunate enough to have an automobile that has had auto body damage, then you will indeed save more money long-term by having a reputable body shop take care of the repairs immediately.

The majority of the time, car owners feel that if the vehicle they own has had some damage to the body, then they will need to get a whole new replacement for that part. Car owners should worry less as this is certainly not always the case. There are many auto repairs which can be performed including bumper repair, paint touch up, windshield repair, headlight restoration, wheel rim repair and much more, without replacing the whole part.

Auto repairs tend to cost a mere fraction of what replacement parts cost. Another advantage of repairs instead of replacements is that the job can be completed very quickly. The process usually only takes a few hours and there isn't the time consuming wait for specific parts to arrive.

Some damages, unfortunately, can actually lead to even more substantial repairs and costs, if the damage is not dealt with quickly enough. For example, if the vehicle has chipped or cracked paint, it is then exposing the metal body to all of the different types of elements especially moisture and in some areas road salt.

This is due to the fact that paint acts as a type of sealant. If the cracked or chipped paint is not repaired fast enough, then rust will gradually start to form around the area which is affected. This can lead to disaster, as rust is very invasive and is certainly a much more costly repair.

Therefore, if you have minor repairs sorted quickly, you will actually be able to keep your hard earned cash in your pocket. Most of the time, a rental car will not be required when you're vehicle is undergoing minor repairs because the work required will be completed very quickly. This will help you save cash as you will not need to pay for a rental, not to mention the added hassle of having to return the rented vehicle when your repairs are complete.

There are a lot of auto body shops that work closely with insurance companies while repairing vehicles. Some of these shops will even contact and negotiate with them for you. It is true that in most cases, your insurance company will certainly pay for the repairs, based upon your insurance coverage, however, if the work to be done is fairly minor, most people usually just pay the price themselves, as the cost is so small and far less than their deductable.

If you pay a little extra when the initial damage occurs, then it is a fact that you will save money in the long run. It will definitely prevent you from having to spend more on the smaller repairs that were not dealt with properly, which will result in even more extensive work required for your automobile.

Breaking Down Collision Repair Costs

Even if we have car insurance to fall back on when we get into an accident, understanding the costs of collision repair is beneficial in the long run because of the impact it has on future premiums. Knowing how much a repair can potentially cost also affects how you will deal with a collision repair shop. And if the damage to your car is extensive enough, knowing the potential cost of repair will help you make a decision on whether to claim for a total loss or not. As many car owners may have experienced, premiums do rise based on an owner's claims history and knowing when to claim or not has an impact on your future finances.

Why do seemingly simple repairs (such as repairing a dented bumper) cost so much? It's not only the collision repair shop's markup, although it is a variable to consider. An uninformed owner may think that it's a simple matter of taking out the bumper, whaling away with a hammer, applying some filler and then painting the thing. Well, one could do that, but would the end result be a finish that you would be proud of as well as retain the value of the car? Most likely not.

Many costs associated with collision repair are items that are not obvious to the untrained eye. Wires and sensors may need to be replaced. A non-visible sub-assembly may need to be straightened. A urethane bumper may need extra layers of primer or filler. Or there may be gaskets, seals or trim that need replacing to ensure a leak-proof cabin. Then add to that the cost of labor for properly doing a professional job and those little things quickly add up. If you take a close look at the damage to your vehicle in this kind of light, you will realize that the parts and labor needed to restore your car to its unscathed condition really do add up. To get an even better idea of what it would cost a collision repair shop to repair your vehicle, list the parts you think will need replacement and head down to a parts dealer. Don't forget the paint as well as the primers and fillers that will need to be applied. If you can use aftermarket parts instead of OEM parts, look up their prices too. When considering an estimate for the damage to your car, don't limit yourself to what is obviously damage. Also consider what could be wrong.

Labor charges vary, but it's safe to say that the more skilled and experienced the technicians are in a given collision repair shop, the more expensive they will be. On the plus side, you will be assured that will get the repair done correctly and quickly. This is also important to remember when dealing with repair chains. Consistency is not always their strong attribute, and where one branch may have excellent quality, the next may be marginal.

How to Find a Reliable Car Collision Repair Center

Dealing with car collision repair is generally far from being a pleasant experience. Although nobody would want to get into an accident, it is always a possibility. Therefore, you must be prepared to get your vehicle repaired by finding the right collision auto body repair shop.

Here are some easy steps that will help you choose a good and dependable car body repair center.

Get as many reviews as possible. First, ask your reliable friends, family, and even co-workers about their experience with car repair shops. This is a great place to start. Of course, you can always trust the recommendation of your family and friends, right?

Also, read people's comments from online local review sites about their opinions or perhaps good and bad experience with local collision repair shops. It is imperative that you check the reputation of the auto repair shop. Verify any complaints against your prospective shop in the Better Business Bureau and see if they give warranties as well.

Talk with your insurance company. You first might want to consider talking with your insurance company. Insurance providers usually have partnership agreements with local repair shops. Ask for any recommendation and they will offer you a list of competent collision centers. However, also consider references from outside sources as these shops may take short cuts and compromise the quality of repair just to save money.

Ask for an estimate. Compare price quotes among different repair shops first. Most collision repair shops will readily give you cost estimates. This will determine the extent of damage control that has to be done on your car. Once you get an estimate, try calling a few other local auto body repair centers and ask how much would they will charge for same repairs. Of course this will help you make a better decision.

Evaluate the collision repair facility. Know if they have the latest tools when it comes to car restoration. You see, cars these days have computer features in them, so see if they have advanced tools that are essential to restore your car to its original shape. Also, ask about the type of parts they use. Some repair outlets use recycled materials and auto parts. Know if they make use of recycled auto salvage or junkyard parts. This might help you save more on the repair.

As the accident process is indeed stressful enough, it is important that you ensure you only find top quality collision repair center to avoid further stress and hassle.

Traffic Accident Tragedy - Choose The Best Auto Body Repair Services

Getting into a traffic accident is pretty terrifying and sometimes even life altering. Hopefully nobody sustains and the vehicle undertakes all the damage. Of course, any physical injury that takes place in a collision attains the first priority and you must handle it rightly. In due course, as everything settles down a bit, consider taking a look at your car's disintegrated condition. Traffic accidents, whether minor or serious, are always distressing and sometimes even devastating to those involved. While it's completely normal to feel scared and traumatized after an accident, bringing your car back in form is equally important.

The demand for car body repair shops is much more than any other type of repair store. Since the need for efficient auto body repair agencies is incredibly high, it's only natural that so many companies came up with car restoration services. As an inexperienced person, it becomes extremely difficult to hire a body mending shop that offers the best range of services at the most reasonable rates. Thus, you must take a very sensible decision and capitalize on the deals when hiring such an agency for your vehicle. Here are a few handy tips which will help you in choosing an experienced and efficient car body repair center.

Get Referrals

You possibly have many friends and acquaintances with cars or vehicles. A few among them surely got involved in a road accident and underwent car body or frame restoration. These are the best people to seek advice from; ask them the names of some repair agencies that they employed to bring their damaged vehicle back in form. Make sure that the agencies are worthy enough to meet your standard and resources.

Modern and Innovative Tools

Make sure that the agency you choose uses the most superior auto fixing technology accessible today. Inquire them about the age of the tools they apply for damaged frame and body restoration work. Good and honest agencies will give you an insight into their completed projects, since they have nothing to hide. These agencies often use modern paint techniques to bring a damaged automobile back to its original condition. They match the original body color and treat every part individually before starting the work. Once the process is over, everything looks perfectly uniform.

When choosing an auto restoration agency, make sure that you select one depending of your needs and not simply by glancing the services offered by the shop. Almost all of them make big promises to meet your expectation, but only a handful of them truly keep their words. So, do thorough investigations before settling on your choice.

Top 5 Keys to Finding the Right Auto Body Shop

We love our cars; we spend countless hours in them driving to work, driving the kids around, and driving for pleasure. Though modern vehicles are fine machines, because of the sheer quantity of vehicles on the road, accidents will happen, no matter how cautious and safe you are as a driver. When accidents happen, you will need to take your car in to the body shop. Because there are so many shops in every town and city, here are five keys to finding the right auto body shop that will get the job done correctly and reasonably.

5 Keys to Finding the Right Auto Body Shop

The first thing to do is find a few auto body shops in your area. The best way to do this is through referrals from family, friends, neighbors, or coworkers. You can also look online for shops in your vicinity. Once you get a handful of shops, it is important to check online for reviews, ratings, and testimonials. There are a few good online review sites that offer unbiased accounts on their experiences with businesses in your local area.

It is important that your auto body shop works with your insurance company. Even if you are not filing a claim on this particular accident, it helps to establish a relationship with a body shop that is willing to work with insurance companies if the need ever arises. Any reputable body shop should be able to work with and coordinate repairs with your insurance company; if you find that this is not the case, move on to the next repair facility.

Take a quick look at each shop you go to. A quick inspection will tell you if the place is run efficiently and if the staff is friendly. If you feel as if you won't be treated well or just don't like the vibe, move on to the next location.

Make sure that each and every body shop you visit is properly licensed and insured. There will usually be certificates hanging on the wall, but it is wise to ask about their licensing and insurance. Also, ask about any guarantees they offer.

The final key is the estimate. You should get at least three estimates. The final estimates will vary from location to location, but the difference shouldn't be too great. If one shop provides you with a very low estimate, this should raise a red flag. Even if you are taking your car in for a small job, get the estimate in writing. The estimate should also contain a time frame for completion.

Your final selection should be based on referrals, the online homework you did, your feeling when visiting the place, the customer service, and the written estimate. You want to build up a relationship with a reputable auto body shop; if you find one you trust, then the next time you need repairs, you can skip the first four keys and go straight to the written estimate.

Car Servicing Basics: What To Be Aware Of

A car service is never easy to deal with and often, as a result of fearing the hefty bill our mechanic might hand over, we can put off visiting our local garage for as long as possible. Unless as the result of a breakdown or as a result of the dreaded annual check up; many drivers will rarely ensure that their car is regularly checked for faults but is this a good habit for drivers to have?

Car servicing will ensure that whatever the age of your vehicle, all the vital components remain in the best working condition for as long as possible. As such an intricate yet volatile piece of equipment, it is important to remain aware that there are many things that could go wrong with a vehicle at any time. For this reason, drivers should know how to spot a problem and how to stop it turning into a big one!

Whatever the vehicle, there are many issues to watch but below are a few of the most problematic that should be dealt with and serviced right away...

  • Brakes- It is important that all drivers remain aware of how their brakes operate. Complexities aside, your brake pads apply pressure and friction to your brake rotors which in turn slow down and stop your vehicle. As expected these can understandably wear and tear overtime. One of the main errors that drivers can make is not knowing at what point brakes require replacement-leaving it too long and being clueless is not exactly the wisest move. Are there any unusual scraping sounds when you use your brakes? Can you feel any vibrations and do the pads themselves feel soft and mushy? Keep a close eye on your brakes and the moment something feels or sounds unusual it is best to get it checked out. Ignoring your brakes is definitely a bad move.

  • Lights- Today's cars are built with electronic systems, these systems include sensors which are connected to different areas of a vehicle and are designed to essentially pick up on any faults that they may have had. These faults are then reported to you on your dashboard in the form of warning lights. From a coolant warning light to oil warning and even brake lights; the moment we see anything we know that we will generally need to take action right away. What is difficult to understand is why, despite knowing that these warnings are indeed a warning, we seem to profoundly ignore our check engine lights. None of these warning lights will appear at a convenient time and it can be frustrating but ignoring them is a big no. One of the basic car facts that all drivers need to be aware of is that any warning lights should be dealt with immediately. Whether it is your oil, your brakes or your engine; deal with it as soon as possible for your own safety.

  • Cambelt- A cambelt or timing belt is one of the most important components of an engine. Controlling the motion between a cars crankshaft and camshaft which in turn opens and closes the engines valves; the cambelt is essentially crucial to how the entire system operates. No engine can operate without a fully functioning cambelt. Unfortunately despite its importance, the cambelt is not immune to wear and tear and as a result it can very easily and unexpectedly snap. If a cambelt snaps, the damage to a vehicle can be catastrophic and an engine replacement is often the only solution. Nobody wants to face this colossal cost yet surprisingly there are many drivers who aren't fully aware of when they will need to replace their cambelt. Manufacturers will provide a standard interval in which a cambelt change should take place but check your manual as this may differ according to vehicles. For those purchasing a second-hand car, be sure to check when the cambelt was last replaced. A snapped cambelt is a servicing nightmare but a cambelt replacement is as easy as pie.

No driver likes to deal with car horrors and visiting the mechanic is never exactly on the top of our last but if we expect our cars to look after us then we need to look after it. There are a number of issues to keep an eye on but monitoring and being aware of warning lights, your brake pads and your cambelt can ensure that the next time you aren't faced with an unexpected visit to the mechanic and a disastrous cost!

4 Reasons Not to Wait to Check Your "Check Engine" Light

I see it all the time. The customer limps his car in, shaking and shuddering every time he pushes the gas pedal. I could almost write a script - "It seemed to be running OK, then all of a sudden..." After asking a few questions, though, it turns out that it wasn't "all of a sudden."

"Has the check engine light been on long?" I ask. "Well, about a month I guess, but it was running fine so I didn't think anything was wrong", they respond. After checking the codes stored in the computer, it reveals a bad oxygen sensor and a failed catalytic converter, which means for whatever reason the air and fuel entering your engine doesn't burn thoroughly enough, potentially causing gas to enter your exhaust. This gas ignites in the exhaust system, which causes your catalytic converter to melt down, which then plugs the exhaust, which basically means you aren't going anywhere too fast. $800 to $2000 or more later and you're back on the road.

The unfortunate thing is if he had checked it a month earlier, a $200 oxygen sensor may have prevented the problem from getting that bad in the first place.

1. Save yourself a lot of money - your check engine light is called a warning light for a reason. Sometimes you may physically feel a problem, but more often than not you won't. Anything left unattended to could possibly cost you big time down the road. It is true - an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

2. Save yourself a lot of time - I had a fleet customer recently who had a crew driving a work truck several hundred miles to a job. Unbeknownst to him, the check engine light was on the whole time, and eventually caused a major engine failure which required a new engine. Not only did it cost him thousands of dollars, his truck was out of commission for over a week, when it could have originally been fixed in an hour.

3. Save yourself a lot of extra work - in many states, a check engine light is an automatic failure when you go to get an emissions test. Once your car fails, you have to have the problem repaired, and then it has to go through something known as a "drive cycle", which basically means your car has to go through several different conditions to verify it is working properly before the computer resets and allows the emission test to pass. This could take days or weeks, depending on how the car is driven. After all that, you then have to start the process all over by getting it retested at the emission inspection station. Hope it passes this time!

4. Finally, save yourself a lot of stress - I don't know about you, but just the thought of the first three reasons stresses me out. Why not go ahead and bite the bullet, figure out what it's going to take to fix the check engine light, and hopefully save yourself a lot of unnecessary money, time, extra work, and stress!

On a final note, if your check engine light is flashing, that is your cars way of saying, "HEY! you better hurry up! This could be bad!" This typically means you have a severe ignition system misfire, and that could add up to a whole lot of number 1-4, when a simple tune up with new spark plugs and wires (or coil boots, depending on your system) might fix everything.

Don't let your check engine light cause you extra money, time, work or stress. Give us a call or check us out at http://www.wtstandard.com

Tips for Preparing for and Dealing With Car Accidents

Car accidents can be terrifying but being prepared will help take some of the confusion and fear out of this horrible event. Whenever you are traveling by car, particularly if you are going far or nobody is expecting to hear from you for a while, be sure you have a cell phone at hand. Keep it in the glove box so that you can get to it easily if necessary but it will not be a distraction while driving.

Immediately after a car crash, assess injuries and what if any danger you are still in. As soon as possible, report the crash location and any injuries to you, your passengers, or other people involved in the accident. Do what you can for injured persons but do not remove them from the vehicle unless they are in immediate danger as this can make some injuries worse. Turn off the ignition in your vehicle to prevent fumes from building up and check the immediate area for dangers such as leaking fuel and fallen hydro wires.

Do not stand in the road as you may be hit by passing cars, move as far off the road as possible and use any markers or flares you have to draw attention to the accident scene and give other drivers time to stop or steer around. This is particularly important in serious crashed where vehicles cannot be moved or when on unlit country highways at night.

Photograph the crime scene if possible so as to provide as much information to the authorities as possible and then move vehicles off the road if possible. If there is little damage to any of the vehicles involved and nobody is seriously injured, you can choose to exchange information and simply report the incident to a nearby Collision Centre instead of waiting for the police to arrive. If the other driver insists on not reporting the accident, be suspicious - there is little reason not to report the incident other than outstanding criminal or traffic related charges.

At the scene of the incident, remember to remain calm and refrain from arguing with the other drivers. Now is not the time to assign guilt or blame. Instead, gather the information you will need to report the accident to your insurance and leave the investigation to the authorities. Never assume responsibility, sign statements, or promise to pay for damages and be wary of tow truck drivers pressuring you to let them take your car to their garage. Unauthorized tow truck drivers can sometimes use the confusion of accidents to prey on unsuspecting drivers: be sure to use a respected, licenced tow truck company and get all of their information before you let them drive off with your car or you may never see it again!

Finally, preparation is the best way to deal with most unpleasant aspects of life so carry these helpful items with you whenever you drive just in case:

• A basic first aid kit;
• A disposable camera or charged smart phone with camera;
• Emergency road flares, warning triangles, or cones;
• A fire extinguisher;
• A flashlight and extra batteries;
• Bottled water;
• Booster cables;
• A tire repair kit and pump;
• A small tool kit;
• A towel;
• A pair of work gloves;
• Non-perishable food such as chocolate bars or granola bars;
• Hand wipes; and
• A thermal blanket..

Remember, if you get into a car accident, keep calm and get all the information you can. Then call a legal expert at X-Copper at http://www.xcopper.com to see what options you have for fighting traffic charges or keeping your insurance rates from rising

Top Signs Your Car Needs Auto Repair!

Like going to a doctor when you get sick, auto repair is occasionally necessary to keep your car healthy and functional. Sometimes, a car's problems are difficult to detect, and can only be treated once the damage is done. Many other times, however, auto repair costs can be minimized by early detection of key indicators that may signify car trouble. While these examples are by no means complete, they do present a good start!

Does your engine whine or rumble when pumping the breaks at a stop sign? If so, this may be an early indication of brake pads beginning to wear down. While not initially a serious problem, this should be taken to an automotive repair shop sooner than later. Replacing brake pads is a relatively simple and inexpensive task. Wait too long, however, and it could result in lengthier, not to mention costlier, fixes! Just knowing you can come to a full and complete stop whenever necessary will probably make those morning commutes a little less stressful.

Sometimes while driving, people may notice the faint (or, unfortunately, strong) scent of burning oil. This is almost undoubtedly due to a leak somewhere under your vehicle, which is causing motor oil to sizzle against the hotter parts in the system. Most people don't wish to smell like hot petroleum every time they arrive at their destination, but they also probably don't want to pay for continual oil refills. Like brake pads, this is an easy problem to ignore, but the benefits of early auto repair are far more economical, safe, and altogether less smelly in the long run.

So, you're able to stop whenever you want to, and your car no longer trails smoke. But now, your ride feels springier, and it's beginning to give you a bit of a headache. Sounds like your shocks are wearing down. Kids bouncing around in the backseat may think the drive is a lot more fun, but your chassis is suffering for it. Shock systems often deteriorate after regular exposure to rough roads, or just general overuse. So, replacing them when necessary will smooth out those trips a whole lot more.

While these tips are for just a few of the more easily detectable and fixable problems, just being on the lookout for these indicators will save you stress and money. In general, if something feels off, it just might be! Regular auto repair shop visits will help keep you and your loved ones (including your car!) safe and sound as you drive through life.

End of Summer Car Maintenance

Is it getting dark outside earlier and earlier every day? Are you starting to feel a little chill in the early morning, especially when you realize the custard stand is closed until next year? Yes, yes, and yes? Then sadly, the summer must me coming to an end.

It's time to put away the shorts and tank tops and bring back the wool socks and puffy jackets. Many people make small changes around their homes as well to make sure they are prepared for the colder months. And now is the perfect time to do so since the weather is still nice!

Besides your home and health, your car is probably next in line as one of the most expensive and important assets. So be smart and take the time out of your day to make sure your car is prepared and ready just like you have prepared yourself and your house for the cold winter.

Here are the five areas you need to inspect to insure your car is ready:

1) Oil Changes and Quality

The high temperatures, increased amount of drivers on the road, and even the quality of summer gasoline can cause engine oil to expire at a much quicker rate. This is why the end of summer is a critical time for an oil change. This also gives you a chance to visually inspect your vehicle's oil quality.

To check out the oil, make sure your car has been idle for long enough to completely cool off. Take the oil dipstick and dab it on your finger and then rub the oil between two fingers. You will be able to tell immediately if your oil is smooth and clean or gritty. Oil always gets dirty, but checking how dirty is it with your own two hands can tell you a lot about your engine.

Most cars take a different type of oil in the winter as compared to the other months, and even though the end of the summer is a good time for an oil change, don't switch the type of oil just yet. The harsh cold that requires a different type of oil is still a couple months away.

2) Tires

You should constantly check your tires for uneven or worn down treads, but between seasons this inspection is especially important. The summer heat can corrode and wear down your tires which can be very dangerous on slick winter roads.

The sun even causes your tires to lose air pressure, creating even more driving hazards. In fact, for every ten degrees that the temperature rises, you lose an entire PSI! Proper tire pressure gives you the best fuel economy, keeps your car stable, and is crucial for keeping traction on the road.

So, keep an eye on your tires if you want to keep you, your passengers, and the passengers in other vehicles all safe.

3) Wiper Blades

Windshield wiper blades never last as long as we wish they would, usually from the wear of season and weather changes. So, this is an important time to take a look at the quality of your wipers. Look for cracks in the blades and check for a tacky feeling. And of course the best way to tell is if they just aren't cleaning your windshield as well as they used to.

Even if none of these signs are present, you should still consider the damage that the extreme cold might bring. Remember, wiper blades are not only for rainy seasons, but are also helpful in the icy rain and snowy conditions that will be upon us all soon. Replace your windshield wipers so you don't find yourself in a bad situation after an unexpected snowfall.

4) Coolant System

Your vehicle's engine coolant has been through a lot over the past summer. It has kept your engine at the correct temperature so that everything inside your car works the right way despite the heat and humidity outside.

Your radiator is responsible for keeping your vehicle's systems at a constant temperature. Cracks or leaks in your cooling system can cause you to lose coolant. If your engine or transmission overheats, it can result in significant damage to your vehicle, and costly repairs.

Excessive heat can evaporate coolant, causing you to lose the fluid much quicker than normal. And now that temperatures are about to drop again, there couldn't be a better time to have your coolant system inspected and possibly even flushed.

In the winter, coolant works to keep your vehicle warm by collecting heat and transferring it to the passenger cabin heating system. So if you don't want to be stuck with lukewarm air coming out of your vents in the freezing cold this winter, make sure your car has clean coolant.

5) Fuel System

Like the other parts of your car, the summer heat and increased driving have caused damage to your fuel system as well. Gas quality usually declines during the summer months since more people are driving and doing it more often, which increases demand for fuel. And using this poor quality gas for months on end definitely takes a toll on your fuel systems.

The best thing drivers can do is get a complete fuel system flush from a mechanic they trust. But if that isn't possible, you should at least add cleaning additives and detergents to your fuel tank. You can find many of these fuel cleansing products at your local auto parts store, and even some gas stations.

Remember not to go crazy with these products. Always follow your vehicle manufacturer suggestions, as well as the directions provided with the cleaning products and your car will take care of you through the harsh upcoming cold months.

Replacing Brake Fluid: Mechanics Or DIY?

Whether you consider yourself a vessel of car knowledge or not, you will no doubt all be aware of just how important well-maintained brake pads are. Designed to slow down your moving vehicle, the greater the conditions of your brake pads, the more improved and of course the safer the drive. However knowing how important your brake pads are and being armed with a basic awareness that "good brake pads equal good car" is not enough.

When getting to grips with brake pads, it is important to also have a good understanding of brake fluid, how it works and how it can help you determine whether or not your brake pads need replacing.

The main focus of your vehicles brake fluid is to provide corrosion protection and lubrication of your hydraulic brake systems, without which your vehicle would fail to operate. Like all fluids in your vehicle, it is your responsibility to ensure that you monitor whether or not your vehicle has the sufficient amount of brake fluid.

As with many car issues, a lot of drivers are determined to ensure that they visit their mechanic as little as possible after-all who wants to constantly spend money if they can fix the problem themselves? However when it comes to something as important as your brake fluid it is important to know your limitations to avoid putting yourself at risk.

Find yourself in a situation with your brake fluid? Not sure what you can do yourself and what requires a mechanic? Below are the common brake fluid related issues and just what you need to do...

  • I have noticed after some time that my brake fluid is starting to fall, what should I do?

Falling brake fluid is expected over time as your pads will naturally wear. You can simply top up your reservoir but be sure to not go past the "full" line and check that you are using the right grade fluid (dot 3, dot 4 etc).

  • My brakes are starting to feel soft and almost 'mushy', what is wrong with them?

Occasionally air may reach your vehicles brake lines which can cause your brakes to feel soft. In order to ensure improve this condition you will need to bleed your brake lines. This is a tricky task and may not work with newer vehicles so it is often advised to ask your mechanic to resolve this in order to ensure it is done right.

  • I have only just topped up my brake fluid and it's almost all gone already, why is my car doing this?

Often quick drops in your brake fluid level suggest that there may be a leak or that your brake pads are too worn down. It is best to visit a mechanic to get the leak fixed or your brake pads replaced.

  • My brake light has come on; can I wait a while before I visit the mechanic?

If there was ever an indicator that there is an issue with your brake pads, this is it. By regularly keeping an eye on the condition of your brakes and fluid levels you shouldn't have to wait until your light comes on to visit your mechanic however if you find one day that it does pop up; then it is time to go straight to your local garage!

Your brakes are far too much of an important component of your car to neglect. Whether you're an experienced driver or a novice that is still learning it all; by knowing as much as possible about your brake pads and fluid you can not only keep your car in the best condition possible but keep yourself safe too!

Are you checking your brake fluid regularly?

Auto Body Repair: What Type of Shop Is Right for You?

There are many types of body shops that specialize in different types of vehicle repair. While there are some full-service shops that offer to care for a variety of issues, many individuals feel that it's better to choose a shop that specializes. There are a few different reasons for this. First, shops that tend to specialize in specific types of vehicle repair are generally experts in their specific area, rather than knowing a fair amount about all procedures. Also, a shop that specializes in one aspect of vehicle repair is typically faster than a shop covering all issues.

Types

In each town, you're likely to find a few different types of body shops. Most individuals who have purchased vehicles from dealers know that dealers have their own shops that care for the same vehicles that they sell, or the same models as the vehicles they sell. There are full-service shops available at auto parts stores in some towns, and then there are the privately owned body shops operated by small business owners and mechanics. The disadvantage with the car dealer is that they don't care for used cars, and they can be rather expensive. Shops located inside auto parts stores can be convenient, and private shops with trusted mechanics are an excellent choice.

Services Offered by Specialty Shops

Different shops may specialize in many different aspects of vehicle repair. For instance, it's a great idea to seek out a collision repair center for vehicles that have been specifically damaged in wrecks and crashes and that need auto body repair. Some shops may only handle scratch repair and painting, windshield repair, brakes or tires, bumper repair, body work, or the mechanical aspects of vehicles. It's advisable to seek out a specialized shop for the specific problem you're having with your car. The experts operating these shops can quickly determine what's wrong and fix it faster than an all-around auto body repair shop.

How to Find a Trustworthy Auto Body Repair Shop

While simply receiving a recommendation is a great way to find a body shop, there are some other things you should look for as well. Try to find a repair shop with ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified technicians. When technicians are ASE certified, they have passed numerous exams to gauge their knowledge of all aspects of repair as well as having 2 or more years of hands-on experience in the automotive repair industry. Comparing prices for services is another great way to find a trustworthy auto body repair shop.

Overall, when you need to have your vehicle repaired correctly, quickly, and for a reasonable amount of money, your choice of body shops is important. Understand what is wrong with your vehicle and find a body shop that specializes in that issue. Make sure the technicians are trustworthy and that the shop has a great reputation before taking your car or truck in.
